FLOATING ISLANDS
Molding spaces out of Biohaven®.
This project proposes a kayak path with floating islands as rest points.
Mill Creek is currently neglected and has the potential to be improved to attract many users. This project focuses on one island as part of a series of floating islands that would act as a system of rest points along a kayak path.
Kayakers can dock their kayaks on the lower level of the island and continue up through the rest of the island to the fishing holes or a shaded area to picnic or camp. The poles piercing the island are concrete anchors and supports for the shading elements. It isn’t a fixed connection so that the island can move up and down based on the water level. The islands are not only a respite or an entertainment attraction, but they also clean the water and provide habitat for fish, wildlife, and insects. The island is made of Biohaven floating material which can hold the weight of a house and allow plants to bury their roots through it.
